What is a soy candle?

Candles are made of various waxes - paraffin wax being the most common one as it is the cheapest wax and also makes a sturdy candle. But paraffin wax comes with potential hazards and risks like dark soot is produced when the candles are lit causing air pollution. When paraffin wax burns, it can release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like toluene and benzene—both are known carcinogens.

Soy wax is a plant based wax made of the oil from soy beans.

How Soy Candles Made:

  1. Soybeans are harvested, dehulled and rolled into flakes.
  2. The oil is extracted from the flakes and then hydrogenated, turning the liquid oil into a solid wax at room temperature.

Hence we only use soy wax for making all our candles, which are safe to burn even with kids and pets around, non-toxic and soot free.

Tips to use your candles that makes the most out of your purchase

1. First burn is crucial

When you burn your pretty candle for the first time, let it melt till the edges. The time will depend on the container size. For our 6 by 4 inch oval candles it could be 4-5 hours and the smaller ones will be under 2 hours.
This prevents tunneling and helps your candle burn evenly every time.

 2. Always trim the wick after using

Every time you burn your candle, trim the wick approximately 1/4th of an inch. This will ensure  that your next burn is clean and doesn’t deposit the burned wick on wax, the flame will also be brighter.

3. Don’t burn your candle for over 6-7 hours in a go

If you burn it longer, the wax will be overheated and the scent will evaporate. So always make sure the candle is not burnt for a very long time in one go. This helps keep the fragrance fresh for the next burn.

4. Keep It Draft-Free

If the candle is near a fan or window with a breeze the flame will keep moving to one side, resulting in uneven burn and tunneling.

5. Clean and Reuse the Jar

One of the best parts of using a wooden container, once the candle wax is over, use warm water or a blow dryer to clean the container and use it as a trinket tray or a succulent platter by drilling a small hole. Handy right?

6. Store Smart

After each use, store the candles in a cool, dry place. If they are under a fan or left in the open, the fragrance will dissipate and you won’t get a strong fragrance when you burn your candle.

7.  Pick the right spot

If you feel the candle is not giving you enough scent-throw, use it in a smaller room with less draft - like a cozy bedroom or bathroom area and close the door. Our nose gets used to the fragrance and we can no longer smell it, so using it in a small room will ensure a strong fragrance. Or if you have a large hall, burn a few together!
